Backward compatibility

Systemd and Gnome3 both broke backward compatibility, which most likely means it broke someone's workflow. Linus is well know for his ridged rule about not breaking userspace. Everything must be backward compatible. Only developers will dislike Linus, but users will love him. It seems that the systemd developers all love Lennart, it's his users that are not so happy.
